Keilor, Victoria

Keilor is a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne. It is located 18 km north- west of downtown. The largest part of Keilor belongs to LGA City of Brimbank, only the area north of the Calder Freeway is part of the City of Hume.

Keilor consists mainly of residential areas. A large area is occupied next to the Brimbank a park.

History

The name of the part to be descended from a cattle or a stream in Scotland. During the Victorian gold rush of fortune beat on the way to the gold fields in Castlemaine and Ballarat on their camp in what is now Keilor. 1868, the wooden bridge over the Maribyrnong River was replaced by an iron bridge. By the end of the Second World War, the area of agriculture was characterized. After that, the population increased by the establishment of industries in the surrounding neighborhoods sharply.

Two kilometers north of Keilor, at the confluence of Maribyrnong River and Dry Creek, 1940, named by locality, 8,000 -year-old Keilor skull was discovered.
