Keio Corporation

Keio Dentetsu K. K. (Japanese京 王 电 鉄 株式会社, Keio Dentetsu kabushiki - gaisha; engl Keio Corp.. . ) is a Japanese railway company, headquartered in Tama, Tokyo Prefecture, which operates among others in the retail and real estate business. It is traded under the trading code 9008 in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is guided in the Nikkei 225 stock index.

Railway network

Core business of Keio Dentetsu is the operation of more than 80 km long railway network in the west of Greater Tokyo. In addition to the 37.9 km long Keio line connecting Shinjuku, Hachioji, it consists of the following routes:

  • " Keio New Line" ( Keio shin- sen; engl Keio New Line. ): A 3.6 km long parallel section between Shinjuku and Sasazuka for connection to the Shinjuku Line
  • Sagamihara Line ( [ Keio ] Sagamihara -sen; [ Keio ] Sagamihara Line): Chōfu - Hashimoto, 22.6 kilometers
  • " Racecourse Line" ( [ Keio ] keibajō - sen): Connection of the station Higashi- Fuchū at the Racecourse Tokyo ( Tōkyō keibajō ) in Fuchū, 0.9 km
  • "Zoo Line" ( Dobutsuen - sen): Connection of the station Takahatafudō at the Tama Zoo in Hino, 2.0 km
  • Takao Line ( [ Keio ] Takao -sen, [ Keio ] Takao Line): Kitano - Takaosanguchi, 22.6 km
  • Inokashira line ( [ Keio ] Inokashira -sen; [ Keio ] Inokashira Line): Kichijoji - Shibuya, 12.7 km

Group of companies

The Keio Dentetsu is the core consisting of more than 40 companies Group of companies Keio Group ( Keio gurūpu ). In addition to other companies in the transport sector include ( Mitake Tozan tetsudō KK / Mitake Tozan Railway Co., Ltd.. , Keio Dentetsu Basu KK / Keio Dentetsu Bus Co., Ltd.. Further and bus, haulage and taxi companies ) in particular, the KK Keio Hyakkaten / Keio Department Store Co., Ltd.. , Keio Fudosan KK / Keio Realty and Development Co., Ltd.. and other companies in the retail and real estate.

The transport sector 2008/09 was responsible for around a quarter of sales and over 40 % of the profit, 40% of sales and 16 % of profits come from the retail sector. Around a further quarter of sales and profits come from the real estate and leisure.

History

The company was established in its current form in 1948 as Keio Teito Dentetsu KK (English Keio Teito Electric Railway Co.) by a spin-off in breaking the Tōkyō kyuko Dentetsu KK (in short: Tōkyū, English Tokyu Corp.. . ) that during the war the Keihin Denki Kido, the Tōkyō Yokohama Dentetsu, the Odakyu Dentetsu who had Teito Dentetsu and Keio Denki Kido united. The latter are both as operator of today's Keio Inokashira lines and forerunner of today's Keio Dentetsu.
