Keiren Westwood ( born October 23, 1984 in Manchester ) is an Irish footballer who plays League club Sunderland AFC has a contract with Premier since 2011.

Playing career

Carlisle United (2004-2008)

Originally from the youth academy of his native club Manchester City Keiren Westwood in 2004 moved to the English fifth-tier Carlisle United after he missed the breakthrough at City in professional football. Carlisle had experienced in the previous season with relegation from the Football League the low point in the club's history. After the direct re-emergence in 2004 /05, Westwood established in the fourth division as a new goalkeeper and managed by Carlisle as champion against Northampton Town and Leyton Orient direct walkover into the third-class Football League One. The promoted established himself in League One 2006/ 07 as a table of eight and improved this result in the 2007/ 08 season with fourth place. In the first play-off round but United failed with 2:1 and 0:2 at fifth-placed Leeds United and thus missing out on promotion to the second division. Westwood was elected to the PFA Team of the Year the third division due to its good performance at the end of the season.

Coventry City (2008-2011)

Through his performances in League One Westwood was also noticed higher class clubs and so on 18 June 2008, the change to the second division club Coventry City, where he signed a three -year contract. His first season in the Football League Championship 2008/ 09, he finished with his team only on the seventeenth rank, but Westwood was the second time in a row in the PFA Team of the Year selected. In the 2009/10 season, the performance deteriorated again and led the club from Coventry to nineteenth place. After another season in the lower third of the table Westwood not renew his expiring contract and left the club.

Sunderland AFC (2011 - )

On 22 June 2011, the Sunderland AFC has announced the commitment of the transfer fee Keiren Westwood. After he had to take as a substitute on the bench at the start of the 2011/12 season behind the Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, he debuted on October 29, 2011 for the injured Belgians in the Port of Sunderland. Irish National Team (2009 -)

Through his Irish grandparents born in England Keiren Westwood was eligible to play for the Irish national team and has been nominated during his time with the English third division side Carlisle United for the Irish squad. On 29 May 2009 he made his debut in a friendly against Nigeria for Ireland.
