Keitele

Keitele [ kɛitɛlɛ ] is a municipality in the Finnish Savo region, with around 2,700 inhabitants. It is located in the west countryside Savo 82 km southwest of Iisalmi and 100 km north- west of Kuopio. The distance to the capital Helsinki is 430 km.

Overview

In addition to the community center belonging to the villages Keitele Hamula, Koutajärvi, Kukertaja, Leppäselkä, Sulkavanjärvi, Tossavanlahti, Viinikkala, Vuonamo and Äyräpää. Almost a fifth of the municipal area is covered by water. The largest lakes are Nilakka and Koutajärvi.

Parish council

The strongest political force in Keitele is the rural - liberal center party. At the municipal election in 2012, she received more than half of the votes despite losses. In council, the highest decision-making authority in local affairs, it provides eleven of 21 deputies absolute majority. The other two major parties of the country, the Social Democrats and the National Coalition Party play a lesser role than in other regions of Finland with three and two seats on the council.
