Keith Butler (cyclist)

Keith Butler ( born September 2, 1938 in London ) is an English former road bicycle racer and current cycling official.

As an amateur, Keith Butler won in 1961 and 1963 stages of the Milk Race. In 1963, he was also with the team of his club, the " Norwood Paragon Cycling Club", British Champion in the team time trial.

1964 Butler turned pro and won the British Championship in road racing; In 1965, he finished in third place. Until 1967, he started for various professional teams from Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. In 1965 he went as a water carrier in the team of Tom Simpson as well as briefly in the Jacques Anquetil.

Keith Butler initiated in 1938 the establishment of the Surrey Cycle Racing League, which organizes around 170 road race in southern England each year. He was supervisor of the British national team and professional teams on the continent.

2009 Butler was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame. His father Stan took part in the road race at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and finished in single race in fourth place. His son Gethin was a successful amateur racer in the 1990s.
