Keith Copeland

Keith Copeland ( born April 18, 1946 in New York City, New York) is professor of jazz percussion at the Cologne University of Music and jazz drummer.

Keith Copeland, son of Ray Copeland, began drum lessons at the age of 10 years and was already playing at the age of 15 as a professional musician. At 17 he joined the U.S. Air Force. At 22, he was released and went to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music.

From 1975 to 1979 he worked as a music teacher, then a long time exclusively as a musician from New York. Mid-1980s, he took up teaching again and taught at Rutgers University, Queens College, Long Iceland University and the New School University in New York. Since 1992 he is professor of jazz percussion in Cologne.

Copeland had engagements, among others, Stevie Wonder, Billy Eckstine, Cab Calloway, Helen O'Connell, Eartha Kitt, Attila Zoller and Johnny Griffin. He is now heard as a companion to more than 100 CDs and has released 5 CDs under his name.
