Keith County, Nebraska
Keith County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ogallala, which was named after the people of the Oglala.
Geography
The County is located in west-central Nebraska, bounded on the southwest by the extreme northeastern corner of Colorado and has an area of 2874 square kilometers, of which 126 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Arthur County, McPherson County, Lincoln County, Perkins County, Deuel County and Garden County.
History
Keith County was formed in 1873. It was named after C. Keith Morrill, the grandfather of Governor Keith Neville.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Keith County 8,875 people in 3,707 households and 2,535 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.75 percent White, 0.08 percent African American, 0.71 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, and 1.49 percent from other races; 0.80 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.23 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,707 households out of which 30.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.6 percent were married couples living together, 7.0 percent were single mothers, 31.6 percent were non-families, 27.9 percent of all households and 13.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.89.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.3 percent population under 18 years, 5.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 years and 18.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 32,325, and the median income for a family was $ 39,118. Males have a median income of $ 26,523, women $ 19,024. The per capita income was $ 17,421. 6.6 percent of families and 9.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 13.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 8.2 per cent were over 65 years.
