Keith Usherwood Ingold ( born May 31, 1929 in Leeds ) is a British- Canadian chemist. He is known for research on the chemistry of free radicals.

Life

He is the son of the British chemist Christopher K. Ingold and chemist Dr. Hilda Usherwood. He studied at the University of London with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1949 and at Oxford University, where he received his doctorate in 1951 Cyril Hinshelwood. After that he went to Canada where he worked for the National Research Council ( NRC) and was a post - doctoral student at the University of British Columbia. He then worked again for the NRC, where he headed the department of chemistry of free radicals. He is a Distinguished Scientist at the Steacie Institute of Molecular Science.

He dealt later with antioxidants such as vitamin E, free radicals capture, their role in aging and cancer. His research also had applications in the petroleum industry.

He has published over 550 scientific papers.
