Kelis

Kelis Rogers ( born August 21, 1979 in Harlem, New York) is an American hip hop and R & B singer.

Biography

Youth

As a child, Kelis sang in the church choir and took lessons on the violin, the piano and the saxophone at a private school. During her school years she was a member of the R & B group BLU. After graduating Kelis founded together with the Neptunes a band. This also helped her to a recording contract as a solo artist.

Career

1999 appeared Kelis ' first album Kaleidoscope on the market. Produced by the Neptunes album developed internationally (except the USA ) to a major commercial success, driven by singles "Caught Out There ", " Good Stuff " and " Get Along With You". Two years later, with Hiking in their second album, but was only released in Europe and Asia, with " Young, Fresh n ' New ", only a single, moderately successful single brought forth.

In the U.S., Kelis was, however, especially by working with a variety of different artists known under the title " Got Your Money" by Ol ' Dirty Bastard and " What It Is " with Busta Rhymes. It was not until her third album, Tasty, which came on the market in 2003, Kelis succeeded as a solo artist in the breakthrough. The single " Milkshake " reached # 1 on the R & B charts and # 3 on the Billboard charts. Similar to the subsequent releases " Trick Me " and " Millionaire" ( a duet with André 3000) could also be placed in Europe at the top of the charts.

In August 2006, appeared Kelis Kelis Was Here fourth studio album, for its productions, among other artists such as Will.i.am, Cee- Lo Green and Scott Storch were responsible. The first single from the album, " Bossy ", a collaboration with rapper Too Short was, charted at number 16 of the U.S. Billboard charts. The second single was entitled " Blindfold Me" and was created in collaboration with her husband and rapper Nas, whom she married on January 8, 2005. As the third single in 2007 "Lil 'Star " was released abroad.

In April 2009, she filed for divorce from Nas due to irreconcilable differences, although she was seven months pregnant. Her son Knight was born on July 22, 2009 in New York. The divorce from Nas was completed on May 29, 2010.

In May 2010, her fifth studio album, Flesh Tone in Europe and Asia, and published in July in the United States. The first single from the album, " Acapella ", debuted at number five in the UK and reached # 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Songs and the UK dance charts. The second single, "4th of July (Fireworks ) ", became a club hit in America and the United Kingdom. The subsequent releases " Scream" and "Brave " were less successful. Mid-2010, Kelis began with their first U.S. tour, titled All Hearts, together with Robyn.

A single titled "Distance" was released in 2012.
