Kelly Sotherton

Kelly Sotherton (Kelly Jade Sotherton, born November 13, 1976 in Newport, Isle of Wight ) is a former British athlete. She had her greatest successes in the heptathlon, but also stepped up to the long jump.

As a teenager, Sotherton first played netball for the team of Hampshire. In addition, she has already won two titles in the heptathlon at the UK School Games. After a training partnership formed with the heptathlon Olympic champion from 2000, Denise Lewis, managed Sotherton 2002 dip in the British National Team.

At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, she won the bronze medal with surprising 6424 points. At the European Indoor Championships in Madrid in 2005, she won with 4733 points in the pentathlon silver behind the Swede Carolina Kluft. In Götzis the Mösle Mehrkampf meeting they again defeated the Swede, but presented with 6547 points on their personal best. At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 she was awarded 6325 points and fifth in the long jump Eighth.

Won the 2006 Kelly Sotherton, starting for England, with 6396 points, the title at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. At the European Championships 2006 Kelly Sotherton was with 6290 points Seventh. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka in 2007 she won with 6510 points Bronze.

In the hall she was in both 2005 and 2007 runner-up in the pentathlon behind Carolina Kluft at the European Championships. In 2007, she presented it with 4927 points on a British record.

Kelly Sotherton is 1,80 m tall and weighs 65 kg. She started for the club Birchfield Harriers.
