Kemnath

Kemnath ( bavarian: Kemmat ) is a city in the Upper Palatinate Tirschenreuth and office of the Management Community Kemnath. The city is considered the economic and cultural center of the western district Tirschenreuth.

Geography

Geographical location

Kemnath is surrounded by the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park and Stone Forest. The Kemnather Country characterize volcanic cones, such as the arms or the rough mountain of Kulm, and pond chains.

History

The name Kemnath is derived from the word Kemenatha, which is an old name for a heated room in a medieval castle or inn. In fact, was from the ninth to the thirteenth century, was established by the Franks rule seat northwest of the present town. In the neighborhood of the castle there was a hostel for purchase and carters. Today's Kemnath was created in the 13th century as a market town and received 1354-1375 the municipal law. Nowadays there are still remnants of the old city wall. The city center is paved and has a typical medieval appearance: narrow streets, narrow but tall buildings. Until the local government reform, which came into force on 1 July 1972 Kemnath was the county town of the district of the same name.

Incorporations

In 1945 or 1946, until then independent municipality Fort show were incorporated ( with cake Reuth ) and parts of the municipalities of Bern village and Eisersdorf. On 1 January 1972 Atzmannsberg, Guttenberg, Schönreuth were added ( with the incorporated on April 1, 1949 remaining part of Eisersdorf ) and Zwergau. On 1 January 1975 was added Kötzersdorf. Höflas ( with the 1945/46 incorporated other part of Bern village) as well as parts of the territory of the dissolved municipalities Hesse Reuth and extinguishing joke ( with the 1945/46 incorporated Kaibitz ) were added at 1 January 1978. The market Waldeck followed on 1 May 1978.

Blazon: Shared and split up; front in black and a red crowned and red reinforced golden lion, behind the Bavarian lozenges; below in silver a red house with closed silver gate.

The coat of arms has been known since the 14th century.

Structures

The parish church of the Assumption was built in 1448 as a three-nave, late-Gothic hall church. The interior is Baroque. The altar table of the high altar is the aggregate skeleton of the catacomb Primianus. The bell tower ( 19th century ) with a gate-like passage at the eastern end of the town square.

In the district of Waldeck the Baroque Catholic parish church of St. John of Nepomuk and the ruins of Burg Waldeck are worth seeing.

Museums

In the Old Fronveste is the home and small arms museum. In addition to prehistoric finds from the Kemnather room a Wehrkundliche collection is shown. This is reminiscent of the first Bavarian Rifle Factory, which consisted in Fort Look at Kemnath 1689-1801.

Regular events

Already in the 18th century passion plays have been performed in Kemnath. However, this was in 1770, as well as the Oberammergau passion play banned by decree of the Bavarian Elector of government. In 1983, the Passion Play tradition was taken on the occasion of the 975th anniversary of the city. The basis for the modernized version of the game a year 1731 from the Bishop's Central Archives Regensburg. Since 1983, the Kemnather passion is revived every five years during Holy Week.

Since 1990, a nationwide Oldtimertreffen and a market for Vintage parts and accessories on the school campus will be held in Kemnath regularly. The participants of the meeting and the market traders come from all over Germany and the Czech Republic. Fixed date of both events with often well over 200 vintage vehicles is the last Saturday in August each.

Economy and infrastructure

Main employer is the work of Siemens Healthcare Sector with about 1000 employees. Also located in Kemnath the Großmetzgerei Ponnath and a logistics center of the company Simon Hegele.

Education

Kemnath has a base, a middle and a high school. The high school currently attending more than 1000 students in 30 classes. The main schools Immenreuth and Kulmain where currently two classes are taught, are to be laid in the next few years Kemnath. This should Kemnath be developed into an even bigger college town. On the other hand, the formerly resident in Kemnath special educational center was moved to Immenreuth 2007.

Traffic

Kemnath has several connection points to the highway 22 Bayreuth - pastures and a good connection to the federal highways 9 and 93

Kemnath offers 1200 free parking spaces at the urban area. In the old town largely intact all road users to park for a maximum duration of one hour.

The station Kemnath - Neustadt railway willow Bayreuth is located about five kilometers from the city center in the district Reisach on the main road to Eschenbach. From there you weekdays hourly connections to Bayreuth and Weiden, with connections in pastures towards Munich, Regensburg and in Kirchenlaibach towards Nuremberg and Hof, Bayreuth and Würzburg, Lichtenfels, Saalfeld and Dresden. Although On the weekend there are two-hour connections; to the station, however, there is no regular bus service in early 2011.
