Kemp's grass mouse

The Kemp - field mouse ( Deltamys kempi ) is a living in South America rodent species from the group of the New world.

These rodents are stocky, wühlmausähnliche animals with short limbs. Their fur is gray brown on the top, the underside is lighter.

They live on the lower reaches of the Paraná River in eastern Argentina, Uruguay and southeastern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul ), where they inhabit grasslands. Their diet probably consists of plants and small animals.

The systematic position of the Kemp - field mouse is not without controversy. Wilson & Reeder (2005) list them as the only species of the genus Deltamys. Other sources, however, they arrange for the South American field mice ( Akodon ).
