Kempon Hokke

The Kempon Hokke - Shuu (Japanese顕 本法 华 宗) is a the Nichiren Buddhism attributable Buddhist school. About a hundred years after the death of Nichiren it was founded in Japan by the priest Nichijū in 1384. The main temple of this school is the Myōman -ji in Kyoto, this is also where the original name, Myōman -ji -ha (妙 満 寺 派), this school is derived. For a long time this was the only temple of this school. It was only in 1898, the current Kempon Hokke - Shuu was founded. Be other schools of Nichiren Buddhism and the Nichiren Shoshu Nichiren shū or concerning its formation often the founding year of their primary temple. Due to their founding story is this school of Nichiren Buddhimus, in contrast to Nichiren Shoshu Nichiren or shū, no direct successor to Nichiren or one of his students.

As most Nichiren schools in common the Lotus Sutra, the recitation, as well as the mantra Nam (u ) Myoho Renge Kyo at the center of religious exercise. Religious object of worship is the so called Gohonzon. By his own reading, however, brought Nichijū, as a former priest of the Tendai teachings of Nichiren back into closer relationship with Tendai Buddhism, whose teacher had criticized the teachings of Nichiren, although he had at least publicly, however, never renounced.

Although outside of Japan, the Kempon Hokke - Shuu has followers, it counts with, by its own account, about 100,000 supporters to the smaller schools of Nichiren Buddhism.

The term Hokke - Shuu ( Lotus School ) in itself is sometimes used in the literature as an umbrella term for all schools of Nichiren Buddhism today and should not be equated with the Kempon Hokke shū.
