Kempsey (New South Wales)

Kempsey is a town of 8,137 inhabitants in the Australian state of New South Wales. It lies on the Macleay River 450 km north-east of Sydney on the coast between Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

The first settler was Enoch Rudder, who raised cattle in the area. In 1836 he gave part of his land, that a village was founded. Kempsey was named after the Valley of Kempsey in Worcestershire, England.

Kempsey is the center of the local administrative area in Kempsey Shire. The administration of the Shire has its headquarters in the district of West Kempsey.
