Kempston

Kempston (pronounced: " Kemstun " ) is a town in the English county of Bedfordshire. Kempston was once considered the largest village of the UK, but is now a town with its own administration. 2001, the city had about 19,000 inhabitants. Kempston forms part of the boundary of the county. The city is regarded as a dormitory for the nearby towns of Bedford and Milton Keynes.

Kempston has a railway line. Around 26 km away from the city is the London Luton Airport.

History

In 1671 there were about 750 people in 150 houses in Kempston. 1826 were destroyed by a fire in the town of 40 houses. 1844, during the tenure of Pastor Henry Clutterbuck, the first school was built in the place. This was called Church End School. The second school was ten years later, built in 1854 and opened. 1889 a third school was built. In 1904, the Kempston East Methodist Church, a church built in Kempston. The first volunteer fire department was established in 1907 and incorporated in 1937 by the city Kempstock. 1954 was built in the city primary school.
