Ken Barnes (footballer)

Ken Barnes (actually Kenneth Herbert Barnes ) ( born March 16, 1929 † 13 July 2010) was an English football player and coach. He played as a full back for Manchester City and Wrexham FC.

Life

As a teenager, he started playing at amateur level for Birmingham City. After his military service in 1947 he became a semi-professional to Stafford Rangers. With the transfer to Manchester City in 1950, Barnes ' professional career began, in which he played only once in four years for the first team. It was not until 1954 he was a regular player and experienced the height of his career when Les McDowall introduced named after the player Don Revie Revie Plan. During this time he played in two consecutive years in the FA Cup final, which he won in 1956 with Manchester City. He completed a total of 283 appearances for Manchester City.

In 1961 he became player-coach to Wrexham. Barnes finally went in 1970 returned to Manchester City, where he held a variety of positions coach for more than two decades, including the development of the youth team that won the 1986 FA Youth Cup.
