Ken Baumgartner

Kenneth James Baumgartner ( born March 11, 1966 in Flin Flon, Manitoba ) is a former Swiss- Canadian ice hockey player (defender / outside left ) and coach, who, from 1987 to 1999 for the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Boston Bruins played in the National Hockey League.

Career

On January 4, 1988 Ken Baumgartner denied the first player with a Swiss passport a game in the National Hockey League. On March 19, 1988 against the Detroit Red Wings, he scored his first goal. Overall Baumgartner played more than 700 games, collecting over 2000 penalty minutes. At the beginning of his professional career grandson graduated from Swiss emigrants along with his brother Kevin (Goalkeeper) a season in Switzerland at the EHC Chur.

His many penalty minutes Baumgartner owes his role as enforcer. The banker educated ( business degree with completion ) has long been Vice - president of the players union NHLPA and instrumental in the settlement of the first NHL lockout in 1994-95.

Directly after the end of his career took him to Boston Bruins assistant coach for one season.
