Ken Hargreaves

Joseph Kenneth " Ken " Hargreaves MBE ( born March 1, 1939 † 23 June 2012) was a British politician of the Conservative Party, who represented the electoral district of Hyndburn as a member in the House of Commons 1983-1992.

Life

Hargreaves, who worked as manager, began his political career as a councilor ( Councillor ) and mayor in the local politics.

As a candidate of the Conservative Party, he was first elected in the general election of 9 June 1983 in the constituency of Hyndburn as a member of the House of Commons. He won that constituency newly created by a narrow margin of only 21 votes, which was determined after six ballot totals.

After his re-election at the general election of 11 June 1987 he suffered at the general election of 9 April 1992 electoral defeat and received only 42.9 percent of the votes, while his rival candidate Greg Pope received from the Labour Party 46.9 percent of the vote and so the House mandate won.

After retiring from the House of Commons is committed Hargreaves, a devout Catholic, including in organizations against abortions and was nominated for his services in the county of Lancashire on 29 December 2005 a member of the Order of the British Empire. Shortly before his death, he was also of Pope Benedict XVI. appointed a Knight of St Gregory.
