Ken Lucas

Kenneth Ray " Ken " Lucas ( born August 22, 1933, Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky) is an American politician. Between 1999 and 2005 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ken Lucas grew up on a farm in Grant County. Until 1955 he studied at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After that, he was 1955-1967 officer in the United States Air Force. Later it belonged to the Air Corps of the National Guard. At the end of his military service, he had reached the rank of Major. Politically, Lucas joined the Democratic Party. Between 1967 and 1974 he was a councilor in Florence. After that, he was employed from 1974 to 1982 in the administration of Boone County. From 1992 to 1998 he worked at the district court.

In the congressional elections of 1998, Lucas was in the fourth electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Republican Jim Bunning on 3 January 1999. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 2005, three legislative periods. He was considered one of the most conservative Democratic deputies. He was several times the conversion to the Republican Party offered, but he refused.

In 2004, Lucas opted not to run again. 2006 failed his attempt to return to Congress. In February 2009 he took over the management of veterans by the Kentucky Department ( Department of Veterans Affairs ) as Commissioner.
