Ken Medema

Ken Medema ( born December 7, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan) is an American composer and singer, who has worked in the United States and in Europe for more than 30 years.

Blind from birth, but he is able to distinguish between light and shadow, and perceiving greater contours. At age five he began experimenting himself on the piano. From the age of eight he learned in private lessons, to acquire the classical music theory with the help of Braille music notation, and train perfect pitch and the ability to improvise in different styles of music.

In 1969, he graduated in music therapy at Michigan State University in Lansing to professionalize his vocal phrasing and his piano playing, before he worked as a music therapist in Fort Wayne, Indiana and New Jersey.

In 1973, he began his career as a freelance artist by starting to take her own songs and present. Any experience of human existence may be subject for his compositions, however it is spirituality and social justice concerns.

His first albums he recorded with the record company Word and Shawnee Press, before he Brier Patch Music founded at his birthplace in 1985. This company is responsible for the production and distribution of its publications and at the same time serves him to organize his performances and tours. In the years of his ministry to the present day (2008) Ken Medema has released 26 albums.

He is able to compose extemporaneously. A sermon, a narrative or even spontaneously uttered words can inspire him with a song, then immediately, within minutes, is produced.

His performances are in demand for church gatherings, youth meetings, annual meetings, and church. He lives in San Francisco in the state of California in the United States.
