Ken Patera

Kenneth Patera ( born November 6, 1942 in Portland, Oregon ) is a former American professional weightlifters and wrestlers.

Career

Weightlifting

Ken Patera attended after high school Brigham Young University and operation from the beaten at a university main sports athletics and football. Soon, however, he began weightlifting since he was exceptionally strong as a young man. After the first major successes at the national level the mid-1960s, he was brought by John Terpak at the York Barbell Club, where he was strongly encouraged. Although Ken Patera was very strong, but often had problems with his nerves. This was evident in many important competitions, not least at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, where he remained without overall result.

He had, however, at the U.S. Championships from 1969 to 1972, where he managed three times to beat the world champion from 1969 Joe Dube Strong performances. Ken Patera was the only American weightlifter who outdid the ominous 600 kg limit in the Olympic triathlon before the abolition of pressing. His best performance in pushing was 227.5 kg.

Wrestling career

Patera was eventually trained by Verne Gagne to wrestler and acted mainly during his wrestling career as a villain. He took it to both the AWA, NWA and World Wrestling Federation, which were the three biggest wrestling organizations at this time. Although he was in his wrestling days about 30 kilograms lighter than weightlifter, he retained a reputation as a force miracle and showed corresponding wrestling promotions, such as a bear hug with two enemies at once.

In 1987, a disposition conversion was completed on crowd favorite with him in the WWF, and he stepped up next to Hulk Hogan in the main event of the first Survivor Series. His greatest successes were winning the Intercontinental Champion title in April 1980, and the AWA World Tag Team Title, which he could hold twice. He finished his wrestling career in the early 1990s.
