Kendall County (Illinois)

The Kendall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 114 736 inhabitants and a population density of 138.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yorkville.

The Kendall County is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Illinois at the southwestern suburban area of around 70 km from the city of Chicago. It has an area of 836 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water.

In northeast-southwest direction the county is drained by the Fox River, a tributary of the Illinois River.

History

The Kendall County was formed on February 19, 1841 from the southern part of the Kane County and the northeastern part of the La Salle County. The first name of the County Orange County was named after a county in New York State, from where most were descended settlers. The county was but a short time later renamed to Amos Kendall, the Postmaster General under President Andrew Jackson.

Already in 1835 were the first settlements on the banks of the Fox River on Waubonsie Creek, followed by Newark, Yorkville and Little Rock (1836 ) and Lisbon and Millington (1838 ). The petition for the formation of a separate County from 1840 contained 109 signatures of residents who are settlers.

Demographic data

Since 2000, the population is rapidly increasing because of expanding metropolitan Chicago has now reached Kendall County. Therefore, the density of development north-east of the county is higher because the city of Chicago is nearer. According to the census in 2010 lived in Kendall County 114 736 people in 36 856 households. The population density was 138.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 36 856 households lived statistically 3.0 persons each.

The racial the population was composed of 88.4 percent white, 6.1 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 3.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, with 15.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

30.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 7.6 percent were 65 years or older. 50.6 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 82,649. The per capita income was $ 31,325. 3.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
