Kenepuru Sound

The Kenepuru Sound is one of the larger among the Marlborough Sounds in the South Island of New Zealand.

This sunken valley is an arm of Pelorus Sound extends over 25 km in the direction northeast-southwest.

The larger Queen Charlotte Sound lies south-east and runs parallel to the Kenepuru Sound. Some of the small side arms of the estuaries are separated by only a few hundred meters of craggy hills.

A settlement on the south coast of the Sound is called " Portage", since boats on the 1.5 km long were worn Torea Road from one into the other channel between the coasts just 800 meters away.
