Kengo Kuma

Kengo Kuma (Japanese隈 研 吾, Kengo Kuma, * 1954 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan ) is an internationally known Japanese architect.

Life

Kuma ended successfully in 1979 the Master of Architecture at the University of Tokyo. From 1985 to 1986 he has worked as a visiting researcher at Columbia University in New York.

In 1987, Kuma opens the Spatial Design Studio, followed in 1990, the architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates and 2008 Kuma & Associates Europe in Paris.

From 2001 to 2009, Kuma professor at Keio University in Tokyo, since 2009 he is professor at the University of Tokyo. In the years 2000, 2002 and 2004 Kuma has designed the Japanese Pavilion for the Venice Biennale.

Mid-August 2007 inaugurated the Museum of Applied Arts Frankfurt in his park Kuma modern, inflatable teahouse one that has the form of two superimposed pushed golf balls.

His first exhibition in Germany took place in the air museum Amberg / Oberpfalz from 29 January -24. Breathing April 2011 under the title architecture instead. Kuma was present at the opening and also led a workshop.
