Kenji Yanobe

Kenji Yanobe (Japaneseヤノベケンジ, Yanobe Kenji, actually矢 延 宪 司, Yanobe Kenji; * 1965 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese artist.

Kenji studied at the Metropolitan School of Art Kyoto.

His work is influenced by the aftereffects of the Expo '70 and the otaku culture, as well as visionäreren future dreams that burst from the 1970s more and more. (Oil crisis, environmental issues, Cold War, the failure of the conquest of space and the peaceful use of nuclear power by the crash of the Challenger OV- 99 and the Chernobyl disaster ).

His works deal with possibilities of survival in a post-atomic world. He creates an absurdly ironic Machine World of kinetic objects that may be both useful devices as well as war machines. They act like retro design with the charm of the 50s and are still science fiction. The fact that the sculptures are not just "pictures" of machines, but also actually work, she makes an oppressive to our deputies. Yanobe tells us in an ironic way that we live for some time in the future ( ruined radiation contaminated the future not only in Chernobyl / Fukushima, but also everywhere: chemical substances, electromagnetic waves).

1997, eleven years after the nuclear disaster, he visited with his self-developed nuclear protection suit Suit holds the ruins of Chernobyl.

Kenji Yanobe participated in the Melbourne International Biennial 1999.
