Kenn, Germany

Characteristic is a municipality in the district of Trier on the Mosel -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Schweich on the Roman wine road.

Characteristic is considered the gateway to the Roman wine road. Characteristic has a junction with the Federal Highway 602, an industrial and commercial area and a large shopping center.

History

The name comes from the Latin characteristic and was formerly written Cannis (Latin canna = reed, lat = Cannis reed bank ). The place was first mentioned 893. The spelling characteristic was used from about 1700.

There are several finds from the Iron Age and there were several Roman finds in characteristic. A statue of a Roman nymph is in good condition in the Rheinische Landesmuseum Trier and a copy in characteristics at the Roman court.

At today's connoisseur - Ley is the old post road, this is part of a Roman road that led from Trier to Bingen.

Under French territorial sovereignty characteristic of the Mairie Longuich was allocated in Canton Schweich. The Maximiner Hofgut was auctioned in 1812. Between 1803 and 1808 characteristic Sukkursalpfarrei was then applied to the final establishment of a parish church with a chapel vicar.

Parish council

The local council in characteristic consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

  • Immediately on the Moselle, is the connoisseur corridor, interspersed with sand and gravel arable ( alluvial ) land of the Moselle, where since 1905, both also is broken down. The connoisseur corridor is a designated nature reserve with an old waterworks building built in 1903.
  • Heritage Museum, a fully equipped farmhouse with over 800 exhibits about the simple life of the rural population in the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • Parts of a Roman Villa Urbana from the 2nd century ( Römerkeller on Römerplatz )
  • Hofgut the imperial abbey of St. Maximin
  • Herrenbor (ancient wells) in the main street: the oldest in the district; it was built around 1500 with late Gothic features.
  • Parish Church of St. Margaret
  • The connoisseurs Ley in the west of the village, one from 1970-1990 with built-up residential buildings bluff game around 60 meters above the Moselle valley, with good training and distance vision.

In characteristic are a Catholic. Kindergarten, a primary school, a branch of the Sparkasse Trier and in the real market, a branch of the Volksbank Trier.

Traffic

Characteristic lies on the route of the former Moselbahn. Through the village leads the Mosel bike path.

Moselbrücke

To the west of the municipality of the Moselle bridge Ehrang is the main road 52 between Trier- Ehrang and characteristics. It connects A 64, A 602, B 52 and B 53 with code. The bridge has a pedestrian and bicycle path that leads directly to the Trier harbor and the town center of Ehrang.
