Kennelly–Heaviside layer

The Heaviside layer, also known as e- coating, is a part of the earth's ionosphere. She is one of the layers of the ionosphere where shortwave radio signals are absorbed or reflected, and therefore plays a role in the spread of the sky wave radio signals.

The Heaviside layer was predicted in 1902 independently and almost simultaneously by the American electrical engineer Arthur Edwin Kennelly and the British physicist Oliver Heaviside. She was discovered in 1924 by Edward Victor Appleton.

This discovery was taken up by TS Eliot in his poem "The Journey To The Heaviside Layer ", which was set to music in the musical " Cats".
