Kenneth Kennedy (speed skater)

Kenneth George Kennedy ( born September 6, 1913 in Sydney, † August 20, 1985 ) was an Australian speed skater and ice hockey player and hockey official. As the first Australians, he participated in the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Career

Between 1931 and 1934, Kennedy made the Australian championship on the distances of the quarter-mile and mile. During this time he also played hockey at the federal level. He then spent two years playing for the Maple Leaf Hockey Team in Birmingham and won in 1935 and 1936, the Speed ​​Skating Championships over the distances 880 yards and a mile there.

At the age of 22 years, Kenneth participated in speed skating competitions of the 1936 Winter Olympics. His best performance was the 29th place of the 500 - meter distance here. After the Olympics, Kenneth turned pro in England and earned doing 75 pounds per week.

When the Second World War broke out, he went into the Royal Air Force. After the war, Kenneth returned to Australia, where he played a further six years Hockey. He eventually became president of the Australian Ice Hockey Association and represented the organization as a delegate in the Australian Olympic Federation, where he held the position that travel would be needed overseas, when the Australian athletes wanted to reach the world standard.
