Kenneth MacMillan

Sir Kenneth MacMillan ( born December 11, 1929 in Dunfermline, Scotland, † 29 October 1992 in London) was a ballet dancer and choreographer.

Life

Kenneth MacMillan grew up in Great Yarmouth. There he began his dance training with Phyllis Adams. A few months later he applied for a scholarship to the Sadler's Wells Ballet and was accepted. A year later he became a member of the Ballet Company of the Sadler 's Wells Theatre. Soon after he started the first experiments as a choreographer. Eventually he gave up his career as a dancer in favor of the choreography. Among his works are both abstract ballets, as well as ballets. His first ballet Romeo and Julia was filmed with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in the lead roles. During his long career he worked as a director and choreographer of the Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Stuttgart Ballet, the Houston Ballet and the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. in Stuttgart, he choreogrphierte including the ballet Las Hermanas to the drama House of Bernarda Alba by Lorca.

In 1983 he was defeated by Queen Elizabeth II knighted. He died in 1992 of a heart attack.
