Kenneth Stewart Cole

Kenneth Stewart Cole ( * July 10, 1900, † 18 April 1984) was an American biophysicist, who is considered a "pioneer in the application of physics to biology " ( in the English original quote: "a pioneer in the application of physical science to biology " ). Cole was awarded the " National Medal of Science" in 1967.

Life

Cole studied at Oberlin College and graduated in 1922. He received his Ph. D. ( PhD ) in the field of physics from Cornell University in 1926. Afterwards he studied the electrical properties of living tissue from cell membranes at Harvard University. Together with his brother Robert H. Cole, he developed the Cole -Cole diagram, a representation of complex material parameters in the Gaussian plane.

Honors

The American Biophysical Society awards in honor of Kenneth Stewart Cole KS Cole Award, which is also known as KC Cole Award. This designation does not go back to the science writer KC Cole, but on the nickname Kacy by Kenneth Stewart Cole, who also led to the use of the initials KC Cole for him.
