Kenneth W. Dyal

Kenneth Warren Dyal ( born July 9, 1910 in Bisbee, Arizona, † May 12, 1978 in Oakland, California ) was an American politician. Between 1965 and 1967 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Kenneth Dyal came in 1917 to San Bernardino in California. There and in Colton, he attended the public schools. Between 1941 and 1943 he was secretary of the county council in San Bernardino County. During the Second World War 1943-1946 Dyal was an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. From 1947 to 1954 he served as postmaster in San Bernardino. After that, he was 1954-1961 Managing Director of an insurance company. From 1956 to 1964 he was also a board member of the Los Angeles Airways, Inc. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1964 Dyal was the 33rd electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Harry R. Sheppard on January 3, 1965. As he defeated Republican Jerry Pettis in 1966, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1967. These were shaped by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement. Between 1966 and 1969 Dyal was regional director of the Post Office in San Francisco. From 1969 to 1971 he was regional program coordinator of the U.S. federal post. Then he withdrew into retirement, which he spent in Oakland, where he died on 12 May 1978.
