Kenny Washington (musician)

Kenny Washington ( * May 29, 1958 in Brooklyn ) is an American jazz drummer.

Washington was a student of the drummer Rudy Collins and studied at the LaGuardia High School for Music & Art Still a teenager, he worked with Lee Konitz, with which he Nonet 1977 his first recordings grossed. 1978-79 he performed with Betty Carter, in the following year with Johnny Griffin. He was a sideman numerous jazz musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry and Tommy Flanagan and has participated in hundreds of sessions and recordings.

In addition, Washington is an expert in jazz history, who contributed to the re-edition of Jazz classics Art Blakey and Count Basie and emerged as a writer of liner notes. He teaches percussion at the New School in New York and is the host of jazz radio station WBGO.
