Kensington Oval

The Kensington Oval is one of the biggest stadiums on the Caribbean island of Barbados. It is primarily used for cricket sport, but also for concerts and other events.

History

Since 1882 played in the position of Cricket, as a local club bought the land. The first international match was in 1895 against an English amateur team instead. Since 1930 the stadium for test match of the West Indies is used.

Conversion

In the years 2005 to 2007, the stadium, which is located near Bridgetown has been completely modernized and rebuilt. The costs amounted to 90 million BDS $. Almost all grandstands and in particular the media area were renewed. The seating capacity of the Kensington Oval has been increased from 12,500 to 28,000 seats.

Special features of the station are about a large screen and a swimming pool, viewers can watch the games from which. Behind the pool is a grassy hill, which is used by fans to the picnic. Below is a part of the new media area.

Current Events

On 28 April 2007, the final of the Cricket World Cup 2007 between Australia and Sri Lanka took place at the Kensington Oval, after first several games of the finals were held in the stadium already.
