Kent County (Maryland)

The Kent County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. Thus, it is the county with the lowest population in Maryland. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Chestertown.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest of the Delmarva Peninsula on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay and on the east by Delaware. It has an area of 1,073 square kilometers; of which 349 square miles ( 32.55 percent) of water. The following counties adjoin the Kent County:

History

The County was formed in 1642 from former Indian country and named after the county of Kent in England.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Kent County 20,197 people in 8,071 households. The population density was 27.9 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 80.1 percent white, 15.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 4.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

In the 8,071 households lived statistically 2.28 per person.

18.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.8 percent were 19-64, and 20.2 percent were 65 years or older. 52.4 percent of the population was female.
