Kentucky State University

The Kentucky State University ( KSU or KYSU also called ) is a state university in Frankfort in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Currently, 18,391 students are enrolled, of whom about half African American.

History

The college was in 1886 as a pure Afro-American University ( State Normal School for Colored Persons) founded and is one of the historic African- American colleges and universities. In 1938 she was renamed the Kentucky State College for Negroes. The desegregation in 1954, she called herself since only Kentucky State College. The university status was awarded the university in 1972.

The university consists of three colleges:

  • Arts, Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Mathematics, science, technology and health
  • Professional studies

Sports

The sports teams of the KSU are the Thorobreds. The university is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
