Kentwood is a city in Kent County of the State of Michigan and the United States with about 45,000 inhabitants, is the third largest city of the county.

Geography

Kentwood is the adjacent suburb in the north of Grand Rapids. In the east it borders the Cascade Township, to the southeast by the Gaines Township, to the southwest by Cutlerville and to the west by Wyoming.

History

The village was founded in 1839 by Joel Guild. She was named Paris Township, named after previous Guilds Location Paris in New York. 1967 acquired the settlement town rights and was renamed in Kentwood, according to the jurist James Kent, the name-giving is also for the County.

Demography

According to the United States Census 2000, there were 45 255 inhabitants in 18,477 households. The average age was 32.4 years. The population was composed of 80.9 % White, 9.1% Black and 5.6 % Asian. The unemployment rate was 2.9 %, the average household income 45 812 U.S. dollars a year.

Economy and infrastructure

Several bus lines connect with Kentwood Grand Rapids and other surrounding villages. East of the town is the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, flights to 15 airports in the U.S. and offering to Toronto. In addition, the city has access to Interstate 96 and the Michigan Highway M- 6, M -11 and M -37.

The public schools of the school district Kenwood Elementary Schools include eleven, three middle schools and three high schools with a total of about 8800 students.
