History

The history of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company began with the establishment of the Kenya Power Company ( KPC) in 1954 with the aim to build a high-voltage line between Nairobi and Tororo in Uganda and to create the conditions for the generation of electricity from geothermal and other energy sources. From the beginning, the CCP was the director of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company ( KPLC ), which is exclusively responsible for the distribution of the generated electricity to end customers.

As part of reforms on the Kenyan energy sector, the management of the CCP in January 1997 was formally separated from the KPLC, making a strict separation of power generation and distribution was realized. On 2 October 1998 it was renamed Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd.. under a new corporate identity. KenGen took with it the responsibility for all publicly-owned power plants. On 28 May 2013, the Stomversorger switches after a Verpffung in the pipeline network from the network and thus puts whole country lame stream Tech.
