The Kenyatta University, about 23 km from Nairobi, according to the University of Nairobi is the second largest university in Kenya.

History

The founding of the University dates back to 1965 when the British government handed over the so-called Templar Barack. In these buildings, the first Kenyatta College was established, which was dedicated to teacher training. From 1970, the school was part of the University of Nairobi and 200 bachelor students were enrolled for the first time in 1972. On August 23, 1985, the University became independent and assumed the current name Kenyatta University. Up to attainment of independence in 1988, the Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology was ( JKUAT ) of the University.
