Keppel Island

Keppel Iceland (Spanish: Isla de la Vigia ) is between Saunders and Pebble Iceland Iceland at the northern tip of West Falkland. The highest point of about 36 km ² uninhabited island, Mt Keppel, located 341 m above sea level. The island is characterized by a large valley, which cuts the island into several parts.

Keppel Iceland is named after the British Admiral Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel.

On the island a sheep farm and a Christian mission were created in the 19th century, The 1898 inventory by the end of the year. Some Yámana were resettled in the middle of the 19th century, from Tierra del Fuego to Keppel Iceland and supervised by British missionaries. The missionaries taught the Yámana in sheep farming and taught the English language. From the Mission and the huts of the South American natives only the foundations remain.
