Keratohyalin

Keratohyalin is not chemically well-defined protein, which in the keratinization of the grains ( stratum granulosum ) and prickle cell layer (stratum spinosum ) of epithelia in the form of small granules ( granules ) is accumulated within the cells. Keratohyalin contains no sulfhydryl groups or disulfide bridges. In the course of further keratinization it is finally converted into Eleidin and keratin. The keratin is transported into the stratum lucidum, which is why this layer appears as a very thin line. It is designed to protect against water loss.
