Keratoscope

The Keratograf (also called video keratometer ) is an instrument for detecting and evaluating the topography of the cornea. A placido disk ( ring system with concentric alternating black and white rings ) is thereby projected on the cornea front surface, the annular reflective images are recorded with a video camera and evaluated by a computer system.

A significant advantage in comparison to Ophthalmometermessung is the number of measurement points. In a Ophthalmometermessung few measurement points are recorded (two central, four peripheral ). The Keratografen 10,000 to 30,000 measurement points are recorded depending on the device, the result is a highly detailed profile of the cornea. Different display formats can be selected. The corneal topography can be numeric, color-coded or represented as a three-dimensional surface Mountains.

Originally Keratograf for corneal surgery has been developed. Meanwhile, he finds also in contact lens fitting widespread.
