Kermit Ruffins

Kermit Ruffins ( born December 19, 1964 in New Orleans) is an American musician (trumpet, vocals, composition) of traditional jazz.

Ruffin was first coined by an uncle who was active as an amateur trumpet player, and complemented his instrumental technique in school. At fifteen, he began to play in a Street Band. In 1983 he founded with Philip and Keith Frazier, the Rebirth Brass Band, which he belonged until 1992 and for which he wrote songs like " Do Whatcha Wanna" and " Put Your Right Foot Forward." In 1992 he founded the quintet Barbecue Swingers, with whom he "World on a String " and " The Barbecue Swingers Live" grossed. He also worked with Wessell Anderson and Mark Whitfield and with Wynton Marsalis, Maceo Parker, Walter Payton and Harry Connick. In the late 1990s he also launched its own big band.

In 2003 he received his Barbecue Swingers the Offbeat 's Best of The Beat Awards for Best Traditional Jazz band.
