Kerry Packer

Kerry Francis Bullmore Packer ( born December 17, 1937 in Sydney, Australia, † December 26, 2005 ) was an Australian media tycoon. Packer was considered the richest man in Australia.

Life

After the death of his father in 1974 took over the business of the company Kerry Packer Australian Consolidated Press (ACP ), which was founded in 1933 and many of the Australian magazines and newspapers sells. Under his leadership, the company grew steadily and in 1994 for Publishing and Broadcasting Limited. The company has been involved in various media companies. These included the television network The Nine Network as well as some capital investments in pay-TV offerings. The management of his media empire he transferred in 1998 to his son James Packer.

In the annually published list of the richest people in the Forbes Magazine in 2004 he took a course 111. His fortune was then estimated at 5.2 billion U.S. dollars.
