Kesfeld

Kesfeld is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. She is a member of the collective municipality.

Geography

The municipality is located in the West Eifel, a few kilometers east of the state borders of Luxembourg and Belgium. The municipal area extends over the plateau of Leidenborn and lies about 8 km south of Pronsfeld. To Kesfeld includes parts of Places Spielmannsholz and Dromigt (both partially belonging to Üttfeld ) that lie within 1 km distance from the main village.

With 85.6 %, a comparatively large part of its territory is used for agriculture, 9.8% are of forest existed (as of 2011 ).

Neighboring municipalities are Heckhuscheid in the north, Üttfeld in the east, the south and Leidenborn Großkampenberg in the West.

History

Various archaeological finds, remnants of buildings, bricks, pottery and burial mounds evidence of early settlement of the space by the Celts and Romans. The place in its present form emerged in the clearing phase in the 12th century, after the ending of the name suggests.

The place name is probably due to the current flowing through the village Kesselbach. Was mentioned in a document Kesfeld 1245/1265 as " Kesselveld ". By the end of the 18th century the place to administrative and judicial district of the dairy Harspelt belonged within the rule Dasbourg in the Duchy of Luxembourg.

In 1794, French revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, to which the duchy of Luxembourg belonged at the time occupied and annexed in October 1795. Under the French administration Kesfeld belonged to the Canton Arzfeld, who was administratively assigned to the district Bitburg in the department of forests.

Due to the decisions on the Congress of Vienna, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our 1815 assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. The place belonged from 1816 to the mayoralty Leidenborn in the new circle Prüm in the Trier region and from 1822 until the end of World War II to the Rhine province. After 1936, the village belonged to the Official Daleiden - Leidenborn.

During World War II about 90 % of the town were destroyed. An evacuation of the town took place in September 1944. The U.S. troops reached the area on 16 September, the front stopped first. Therefore Kesfeld was up to the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 directly on the front line. In February 1945 Kesfeld was again taken by U.S. troops.

Since the 1971 local government reform Kesfeld belongs to the collective municipality and the district of Bitburg -Prüm (then district Bitburg -Prüm ).

Policy

The local council in Kesfeld consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Economy and infrastructure

Leidenborn is an agricultural municipality today. Since 1971, when a further 20 farms had been counted, the agricultural area has decreased from 317 ha to 170 ha comparatively strong (2005), which were managed by seven companies. Agriculture Kesfelds was formerly known for growing oats and oat seeds.

The center is located away from busy thoroughfares; which run along the edges of the municipality country roads are accessible via local roads.

Kesfeld is the site of a volunteer fire department with 15 members.
