Kessel-Lo is a member municipality of the Belgian city of Louvain. The name component boiler goes back to the Latin Castellum. Lo, however, is a historical term for the Dutch forest.

History

The founding date of Kessel-Lo is unknown, but already in Roman times was a small fort on the Michelsen Kess Mountains.

Count Godfrey I of Leuven, the then Duke of Lower Lorraine, gave the 1125 allodium Vlierbeek the Abbey Affligem with the intention that they there founded a Benedictine monastery. After the abolition of all the monasteries by the French authorities on 1 September 1796, the monks were forced in 1797 to leave the abbey Vlierbeek.

Kessel-Lo consists of the parts boiler and Lo. 1827 Before boiler belonged to the municipality of Linden and the municipality of Lo Pellenberg. 1827 these were united to the new community Kessel-Lo.

By 1977 Kessel-Lo was an independent municipality. On 1 January 1977 Kessel-Lo was incorporated as part of the merger of Belgian municipalities to city of Louvain.
