Ketonuria
As a ketonuria, acetonuria or acetonuria on the occurrence of normal amounts of ketone bodies ( acetoacetate and betahydroxybutyric acid ) or acetone is known as the simplest ketone in the urine. It can be detected there by means of test strips.
Healthy can be a ketonuria temporarily in catabolic metabolism - such as after great physical exertion or prolonged starvation - have. Otherwise, urine ketones show at
- Fever,
- Major injury or surgery,
- Längerdauerndem vomiting (as in hyperemesis gravidarum )
- Large fat content in the diet or
- Metabolic disorders such as insulin deficiency (diabetes mellitus) or elevated glucagon.
In diabetic ketonuria is a sign of inadequate therapy. In newborns, it is reminiscent of a serious metabolic disease, as metabolically healthy newborns hardly ever have a ketonuria even with pronounced ketosis.
