Kettering Town F.C.

Kettering Town ( officially: Kettering Town Football Club ) - also known as The Poppies - is an English football club based in Kettering, Northamptonshire, which since 2008 in the Conference National, the fifth- highest division in England, plays. The venue of the association is the 6,170 -seat end of Rockingham Road.

Club history

The club was founded in 1872 and is one of the oldest football clubs in England. The club took in 1892 for the first time in the regular league play part and played in the Midland League. In the 1895/96 season, the first rank in the Midland League was reached and added to the following season the club as one of the founding members in the United League. In 1900, Kettering was inducted into the Southern League and rose after four years in the second division of the Southern League from six years later succeeded to rise again in the first division of the Southern League. In 1912 the club left the league and returned in 1923 back in this league.

Kettering Town was then represented for many years almost continuously in the same league, in 1930, the recording was followed in the Birmingham & District League. After that, the club was represented with moderate success in the league and was able to record any significant success. In 1950, the club's Southern League returned and was able to close in the season 1956/57, the league as a winner and took in the following years in the game operation of the Southern League North Western, Southern League Division One and Southern League. In 1973, it again managed to book the profit of the Southern League.

After many years, the team was able to draw attention to themselves in a cup competition, reaching in 1979 for the first time in club history the final of the FA Trophy. The game was, however, lost 0-2 against Stafford Rangers and not realized the title.

In 1979 the club undertook with the entry into the newly formed Alliance Premier League, the predecessor of today's Football Conference, a further ligand exchange. The club placed in its second season in the APL in second place in the league. In the following three seasons, the league has only just ensured by regular placements. The association remained even after the renaming of the Alliance Premier League in 1986 to its present name Football Conference League received and attended mostly moderate midfield ranks, could still win several times with placements on the first five ranks constancy. In 2000 Kettering Town succeeded again the way into the final of the FA Trophy, but lost again and the Kingstonian FC won the trophy.

Having missed out in the season 2000/ 01 with only 43 points to avoid relegation, followed the seasonal closure of relegation to the Southern League. The team qualified as First Place in the following season for the direct promotion back to the Football Conference. After the great restructuring of the English league system Kettering is classified in the Isthmian League Premier Division. Although the club found itself in the following year on only one rank in mid-table, he was again in the Football Conference. After promotion to the Conference National was missed in the first two years, succeeded after a convincing season 2007/ 08, the promotion for the fifth- highest division.
