The Kettwig station is a suburban train station in Essen's Kettwig. It lies on the Ruhrtalbahn between Dusseldorf and Essen and is regularly served by the line S 6. The station building is a historical monument since 1987.

History

The first Kettwiger station was built in 1871. The following year, the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company began operating on the route Dusseldorf - Kettwig Kupferdreh. 1873 a larger concourse was commissioned and built in 1875; the old station building was sold and used in Wermelskirchen. In the same year, the single-track Lower Ruhrtalbahn to Mülheim an der Ruhr was built ind taken into operation.

In 1905 the station was upgraded to 1st class. Now also held fast passenger trains in Kettwig, as well as the fast - food Basel. In order to reach the platform 2 better, was a pedestrian tunnel.

On April 10, 1945, all three bridges were blown up by the German Wehrmacht to stop advancing from north American troops. Rail traffic was resumed soon after the war. Trains from Dusseldorf ended at a Behelfsbahnhof Pusch (today breakpoint Kettwig reservoir). Trains from Mülheim ended on Kettwig station before the bridge.

Since 1968, the S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr served by the line S 6 the breakpoint.

1977, the station was Kettwig is dissolved as an independent agency, also due to the incorporation Kettwig to eat. The concourse was closed and downgraded the station to a stop.
