Kevin A. Lynch

Kevin Andrew Lynch ( born 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, † 1984 in Martha 's Vineyard, Massachusetts ) was an American urban planner, architect and author.

Life

Lynch studied at Yale University (1935-1937), with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin (1937-1939) and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1939-1940) and in 1947 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has worked since 1948, initially as a research assistant at MIT. In 1963 he was appointed as a professor of urban planning at MIT.

Lynch was an international pioneer in the field of urban design and urban planning. His most famous works include "The Image of the City" (1960 ) and "Good City Form " (1981).

Influence

With "The Image of the City" he and EC Tolman contributed "Cognitive Maps in Rats and Men" contribution to the launch Cognitive maps in social geography.
