Kevin Beattie

Thomas Kevin Beattie ( born December 18, 1953 in Carlisle, England ) is a former English footballer. His most successful period he spent at Ipswich Town, with whom he led the 1978 FA Cup and won the 1981 UEFA Cup. Between 1975 and 1977 he played nine caps (one goal ) for the English national team.

Playing career

Ipswich Town

Kevin Beattie began his playing career in 1972 at Ipswich Town. Already in the first 1972/73 season he came in 38 league games for, scoring 5 hits. The coached by Bobby Robson team he won the 1978 FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal. In the Football League First Division 1980/81 he secured his team the runner-up behind Aston Villa and also won the UEFA Cup in 1980/81. Ipswich had the Dutch side AZ Alkmaar defeated in the final with 3:0 and 2:4. Kevin Beattie missed these finals, as he had previously broken his arm in the semi-final in the FA Cup against Manchester City.

In the movie escape or victory (1981 ) by John Huston about a football game in Paris during the Second World War, he stood in for the game scenes British actor Michael Caine. The plagued by numerous injuries Beattie ended in 1982 with only 28 years of his career at Ipswich Town. In the following years, he still came to a few uses for Colchester United, Middlesbrough FC and Sandvikens IF, before he ended his playing career final.

English national football team

His debut in the England team celebrated Beattie on 16 April 1975 in the qualifiers for Euro 1976 with a 5-0 home win over Cyprus. Just over a month later, he scored in an international match against Scotland the first and only goal of his international career.
